Payson Library Presents
Eric Volz - Gringo Nightmare
Thu, Sep 2, 4 – 5 pm - Pepperdine University, Payson Library, 24255 Pacific Coast Highway, Malibu
Author Eric Volz lectures on his book Gringo Nightmare. In 2004, Eric moved to Nicaragua and launched EP Magazine, a successful, bi-lingual publication focusing on cross-cultural understanding and sustainable development. His work with this project continued until November 2006 when he was wrongfully convicted for the rape and murder of his ex-girlfriend Doris Jiménez, and consequently sentenced to a 30-year prison term. He spent over a year in prison, until his conviction was overturned in a appeals court.

Sister Mary Cambell of OLM Killed in Car Crash
Sister Mary Campbell and Msgr. John Sheridan of Our Lady of Malibu, along with Perpperdine University law professor Doug Kmiec, were involved in a single car accident on Wednesday afternoon near Las Virgines Cyn Rd and Mullholland Hwy. Sadly, OLM reports that Sister Campbell, 75, a long-time friend and assistant to Msgr. Sheridan, was killed in the accident.

Msgr. Sheridan and Kmiec, who currently serves as the U.S. Ambassador to Malta, were taken to the UCLA Medical Center Trauma Center. The 94-year-old Msgr. Sheridan remained in critical but stable condition as of Thursday afternoon following surgery to stop internal bleeding. Kmiec, 58, also underwent surgery and is reported to be in stable condition.

Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko's 394-foot "A" has become the most talked-about yacht on the seas and is easily one of the most expensive in the world. Features include a spiral staircase lined with scalloped, silver-leaf walls, an all-white, 2,583-square-foot master suite wrapped in bomb-proof, 44-milimeter glass, three swimming pools and more.
